Hello, dear readers, and welcome!
I hope you've had a wonderful year so far, and have discovered many new things! The older I get, the more I appreciate discovery, and these months "off" have been a wonderful investment in my creativity and artistic future.
(...But, you may have noticed me lurking around just a little bit. Turns out I'm stubborn when it comes to taking a much-needed break. But I learned ((re-learned, really)) a few things from it...)
So, hello again, and welcome. Let's get this check-in post started!
How I'm Doing ~
First off, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who is reading this, and who has stuck with me through my writing journey. You're all wonderful, and I appreciate immensely the time you invest in my stories and my journey. *internet hugs*
So, as I said, these months off have been great. I've really been able to focus more on my writing and creating, and have even completed a few projects that were lagging a bit (yay!), and have a new forward motion that I'm very excited about.
I've really appreciated this time, but as I said above, I've also been a bit stubborn in doing what I needed to do to take care of myself and my work. I'm sure I'll talk about this more in a later post, but I'm really beginning to learn something important:
We have to be able to do things our own way.
I've said it before, I know, more times than I'd like to revisit. I (hope) I'm like everyone else in the fact that sometimes, it takes me a while to learn things. All too often we have to keep learning one thing over and over until it really sinks in, but we see something new each time.
I've talked a little bit about it before, but I have several medical issues. I'm not ready to delve into them with you yet, though I think the time is coming, but one of the things that I have trouble with is looking at a computer screen for too long.
This is one of the reasons I've gone back to handwriting first, and when I type I spend most of my time looking down at the keys, even though I can type without looking. It's hard to describe, but after a short amount of time, I just can't see the screen anymore -- or, I can see it, but I can't really. I probably should work in a different field, but I've always wanted to be a writer.
(Though sometimes being a writer means you can't describe things very well.)
This is just one of the permanent things I deal with, and I don't expect or want any sort of sympathy for it; it's helped me realize certain things about myself. These last few months especially, I've really come to see that I can't do everything like everyone else.
I've spent so much of my time trying to do things the "right" way, because I want to succeed. There are best practices in business, writing, and anything else. But what about when you can't adapt to those best practices, even if you want to?
These last few months have really made me realize how broken our society is in the fact that we don't let people adapt, or try to support them as they adapt. Everyone has something to bring to life, whether they can do things in the same method as everyone else or not, and I believe it's brave to try and break out of the mould we often find ourselves in (not that the mould is inherently bad, because it works very well for a lot of people).
So, I'm still learning. I'm getting there. But I want to take a few more months to really hammer down my best work rhythm for this time in my life. I'm already beginning to implement it.
In light of this, I have decided to take the summer off too, so I will officially be back in September, bringing new stories and new creativity. I'm very excited!
Which leads me to...
New And Upcoming Things ~
If you've popped in during my absence, you may have noticed some new things on the site.
2017 Year Photo ~
If you have yet to see it, visit my home page to check out the "Drawing of the Year" for 2017! Click on it, and you'll be taken to a page telling you a bit about the drawing and my inspiration for it.
New Artwork In The Store ~
For World Book Day I crafted a new drawing showing what books mean to me.
You can find tees, notebooks, and more with this design at my RedBubble store.
There are also past designs available for purchase. Have fun and peruse!
And...Snowflake Triplet News! May 30th!
To end this post, I have one last exciting thing!
The final book in the Snowflake Triplet series will be released October 12th (my 7 year publishing anniversary!), and I'm extremely excited.
This final book was fun to write, and it's both crazy and exhilarating to know that I now have (or will soon have, published-wise) a completed series of books. I almost can't believe it!
I will be doing a blog tour in September/October to celebrate the release and reveal the cover (signups are below, if you would like to participate!), but on May 30th I will be revealing the synopsis for the final book!
Check back next Tuesday, May 30th, to see what secrets "Clara Frost" has to hold!
Thank you, everyone! Until then!
